'Fika' is Swedish for coffee. But more than that, fika refers to the coffee break itself and by convention incorporates something sweet, usually a cinamon bun, cookies or cake.
Fika is a big part of Swedish life, and denotes not only the coffee (or tea) and something sweet but also the social aspect intrinsic to this engrained cultural norm.
Strictly speaking, it is impossible to fika alone, or without something tasty to eat. Typically taken mid-morning and mid-afternoon, fika is all about stopping to enjoy yourself and socialising for a moment in the day.
